Portfolio/Street photography
A photography brand that shoots where most photographers won't: the streets, the grunge, the underground and the nightlife.
The process
01 · We met
Torn Studios, also known as Torn TV, came to us through a family friend of the owner. The brand was just getting started, but it was already making big moves on social and with the clients and models it works with. The next step was a website that matched.
02 · The pitch
The idea came straight away: a site that feels like photography and like the street. Graffiti, film reels and polaroid pictures, with a grunge finish. That became the theme.
03 · Components
Every button, sticker, polaroid and nav state designed once, with how it moves on hover and click, so the build stays consistent page to page. This is the actual component sheet: hover around.
04 · Wireframes
We sketched the homepage four ways (dense, sparse, a full-bleed film reel as the hero, a vertical rail nav) so they could pick how the site should move. Then we tagged it: blackout base, cream cards, red, purple and blue spray, and a symbol set used across every section.
05 · The site
This is version one: the $500 starting point for what the site is becoming. Torn asked for a camera flash when you click About. We took it further and made the flash the transition between every page, which is unlike anything we'd built before. Scroll it, and click the nav.
06 · What's next
Torn is a new client and the build is still in progress. We meet a few times a week to work through new ideas. Next come photo-realistic components, spray paint, animations and interactions that take the site from a concept to something that feels nearly photographic.
